Bombas Socks | 1 Purchased = 1 Donated

For Christmas, my grandparents would give my brothers and me socks. They lived through the Great Depression and their gifts were very practical.

My friend, Linda, introduced me to her favorite socks–Bombas!

bombas-socks-one-purchased-one-donated-thoughtful-gift-ideaThese aren’t your grandparents’ socks!

Ever heard of socks that support the midfoot? Me neither until now. Now my whole family wears it!

They feel wonderful on my flat feet because of their comfort, support, and softness.

My son loves Bombas because he always turned his socks inside out so he wouldn’t feel that annoying seam across his toes. Bombas found a way to get rid of it!

They also have anti-microbial and moisture-wicking properties to keep feet dry all day which makes them perfect for my husband’s feet.

The name Bombas is derived from the Latin word for bumblebee. Bees live in a hive and work together to make their world a better place. They’re small but their combined actions have a big impact on the world.

Socks are the #1 most requested clothing item at homeless shelters. This fact is the driving force behind Bombas–to support the homeless community and to bring awareness to this problem in the United States.

I work for an organization that provides housing to the homeless and every Christmas we collect socks for homeless shelters. So you can see why I would be intrigued not only in the comfort of the socks but also in a charitable company like Bombas with a mission of giving back to communities.

Mattress Topper for a Goodnight’s ZZZ

Know someone in the market for a new mattress but who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money? I have great news! Try a mattress topper!

mattress-topper-for-goodnights-rest-thoughtful-gift-ideaThe mattress industry’s rule of thumb is to purchase a new mattress every seven years.

WOW! I remember my grandparents and parents kept theirs for 25+ years. The springs had to be pushing through before they considered a new mattress.

If memory foam mattress pads and toppers existed back then, I would have purchased one for them! Continue Reading

Rock of Comfort | Condolence Gift

- - Condolence

We feel loved when we are comforted.

rock-of-comfort-saying-thoughtful-gift-ideaI received a coin purse as a condolence gift with a note that said, “To carry your mother’s memories.”

That’s been almost four years ago and I still feel the comfort of my mother’s memories when I open my coin purse.

When my co-worker’s mother passed away, I wanted him to hold something that would give him the same comfort I felt with my coin purse.

There was the challenge of what to give a guy. Then I remembered another gift I received that I carry in my coin purse. Continue Reading

The Gift of Happy Feet

When I traveled for a work conference to Las Vegas, I knew I would do miles of walking, and I didn’t want my feet to blister and ache.

gift-happy-feet-comfort-shoesSince wearing tennis shoes wasn’t an option, I decided it was time to invest in some high quality shoes with built-in arch support.

Giving myself the gift of happy feet made the biggest difference in the world!

Not once did my feet hurt during my four-day trip even though I walked long distances each day traveling from my hotel to the convention center and back multiple times and walking to various hotels in the evenings to go to shows and restaurants.

I’ve been to Las Vegas several times before, but this is the first trip where I made the comfort of my feet a priority. At least I’m getting wiser as I get older! I still shudder at the memories of the excruciating pain I put my feet through during my 20s.

I’ve learned that when my feet are happy, I’m happy! And that it’s worth the extra money to pay for high quality shoes that provide remarkably better comfort, materials and design.

Women love to have comfortable shoes, especially slippers to wear around the house after a long day.

slipher-some-cash-slippers-thoughtful-gift-ideaHere’s a cute gift idea with a play on words for giving slippers. I call it “SlipHer Some Cash.”

Give the gift of comfort while hiding some money in the toes of the shoes.

Don’t give the surprise away! Let her discover the cash on her own when she tries on her new slippers. Instant cash will give way to an instant smile!

Upgrade His or Her Lifestyle | Thoughtful Gift Ideas

You probably know someone who is hard to shop for. It can be frustrating finding this type of person the perfect gift because they seem to have everything.

upgrade-lifestyle-egyptian-cotton-sheets-thoughtful-giftDon’t worry. For those who are hard to shop for, buy them a nicer version of something they already have in order to upgrade his or her lifestyle!

By upgrading, you’ll be giving someone a higher level of quality, comfort, beauty, performance, protection, or utility.

These types of gifts really work well when someone doesn’t typically spend money on themselves or when someone isn’t aware of what they’re missing by not owning a better brand that provides additional benefits.

Teddy Bears for Kids Involved in Domestic Violence

- - $20 or Less, Catch All, Kids

My BFF, Linda, decided to donate a big box of her never-been-used teddy bears she used to have displayed in her office. Yes, she was a collector. She did not start out that way but through the years friends and family started giving her bears for birthdays, Christmases and celebrations.

These teddy bears will be used by law enforcement to comfort children involved in domestic violence so they’ll have a best friend to hug and to hold.

Linda enjoyed her stuffed animals but thought of a much better use for them.  Children who could use their own BFF –  best friend forever.

That’s where my husband, Randy, comes into this story. He volunteers as a deputy for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. He gives his time to assist fellow officers patrol the 750 square miles here in Logan County, and he loves it! Continue Reading

A Baby Lamb – Condolence Gift Idea

- - Condolence

My son’s childhood friend passed away just before Thanksgiving. Travis was only 33 years old. The boys were best friends in elementary school when we lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They spent a lot of time together at each other’s homes until we moved to Oklahoma when the boys were eight years old.

Travis’s grandmother, Helen, and I kept in touch these past 25 years. When she called with the news that Travis had passed away, my heart broke. We spoke for a few minutes and hung up. It can be difficult to find just the right words to say when wanting to express your heartfelt sympathy and to give comfort to someone who has experienced death in their family.Baby Lamb Gift Idea

Even standing in front of the sympathy cards section, reading and trying to find the right healing words is not always easy. It just so happened I was in a gift shop and I saw a baby lamb stuffed animal with a cross on its hoof. I immediately knew I had to send it to Travis’s grandmother. In the sympathy card, I explained when she felt the need to hug Travis to hug the baby lamb for comfort.
