- - Valentine's Day

Do you know what makes a holiday better? The anticipation and excitement leading up to it!

Valentine’s Day is coming up soon. Here is a fun way to use the first 14 days in February to show someone how much you love, cherish and appreciate them. Do this for children and adults!

The Many Reasons Why I Love You

People often say “I love you” but they often don’t go into specifics about what exactly it is about the person that they love. Telling someone the many reasons why you love them is much more powerful and meaningful.

So here’s what you do that I call 14 Days of Love Notes.

Instructions:

Cut out 14 paper hearts. Starting February 1, write a love note or affirmation on a heart every day and tape it where your Valentine will be sure to see it. It could be on their bedroom door, on their bathroom mirror, or different places around the home. Continue writing on a paper heart every day for 14 days.

Tip: I used red and pink construction paper and taped it to my son’s bedroom door with painter’s tape so it wouldn’t damage the paint.

Your loved ones will enjoy reading your daily expressions of love!

Pillow Talk Celebrates How Couple Met

Where did your love story begin? Have a “pillow talk” that celebrates the start of something special.

I was 13 years old when I met my future husband. He was 16 years old and rode a Yamaha 55 motorcycle. (The motors were small back then).

Celebrate the Beginning of a Couple’s Love Story

He was visiting his cousin and gave all the boys on our block a ride on his motorcycle while I watched from my front porch.

I decided I wanted a ride too so I walked across the street and asked if he gave girls a ride on his motorcycle.

He, of course, said, “Yes!”

When we returned from our ride all of the boys including my two brothers were complaining Randy gave me a longer ride.

What Randy said next made me swoon. “She’s prettier than any of you!”

That was in 1967. We married in 1971 and will celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary this year.

Couple’s Gratitude Journal

I started journaling in grade school, and I’ve done it ever since. I enjoy writing down life’s moments, both big and small, that I always want to remember.

By deciding on what to write, I’m able to reflect on my life, my thoughts, and my feelings. It’s both therapeutic and satisfying.

My husband has never journaled so he has never gotten to experience the joys or the benefits from it. This Valentine’s Day that’s going to change!

Weekly Expressions of Gratitude

I’ve gotten us a Couple’s Gratitude Journal, where each week we both write about how much we appreciate the other person. I know we appreciate each other, but this is a chance for us to do a better of expressing it regularly.

They’re almost like “pillow art” because they come in so many unique designs, colors and textures!

Valentine’s Day Musical Stuffed Animals

When we think of Valentine’s Day, we immediately think of romantic relationships. A close second are Valentine gifts for kids!

stuffed-animal-musical-little-lionheart-hallmark-thoughtful-gift-ideaCute plush stuffed animals are loved by everyone especially if they are interactive and musical.

I needed some birthday cards and stopped at a Hallmark store. As I walked in, I instantly was greeted by the Little Lionheart and Sweet Swingin’ Elephant musical stuffed animals.

My heart melted. What a wonderful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a loveable plush toy animal that sings and dances.

I had to have them even though I do not have grandchildren…yet. In my defense, I do know a lot of little ones. Continue Reading

Give Your Partner A Sensual Oil Massage

I have a Valentine’s Day gift that can transform your relationship by creating deeper intimacy. You can give it over and over, and it’s amazing every time!

give-partner-sensual-massage-oil-giftGive your partner a sensual massage with your own two hands using massage oil.

If you think about it, who better than to pamper your lover with a romantic massage than you?

My husband is no professional masseur, but he gives THE BEST massages. I only wish he could massage me longer than 20 minutes before his fingers get tired. Really though, I’m not complaining because those 20 minutes are pure heaven!

My body becomes putty in his hands as he sensually rubs my aches and tensions away… leaving me feeling completely relaxed and loved.  There’s something very intimate in knowing that your partner is focusing all of his or her efforts on making you feel so good.

By the way, massage oil is essential. It makes a massage feel 100 times better!

The 5 Love Languages for A Happy Marriage

Have you ever wondered what the secret is to a long, happy marriage? I am completely serious when I tell you I’ve found it.

I learned it in the book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, the #1 New York Times bestselling book by Dr. Gary D. Chapman.

Communication doesn’t break down because men are from Mars and women are from Venus. It’s because we often speak different love languages than our spouse.

In the book, Dr. Chapman explains the 5 Love Languages using wonderful stories and examples from real couples he has helped through marriage counseling. He says it’s the secret to keeping love alive.

The 5 Love Languages

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Acts of Service
  3. Receiving Gifts
  4. Quality Time
  5. Physical Touch

Reading this book helped understand what makes me feel loved and what makes my husband feel loved.
