Elephant & Piggie Books

When my son, Aiden, turned either one or two years old, he received Elephant & Piggie books for his birthday.

Before then, I had never heard of Elephant, Piggie or their author and illustrator–Mo Willems.

Well, Mo Willems is a children’s book genius and his books contain a unique style!

It wasn’t long before I ordered more books to add to our new collection.

Mo Willem’s Elephant & Piggie books are filled with simple drawings that allow the words, facial expressions and body languages to stand out and make the story come alive.

The books also touch on important life lessons that children should know such as how to be a good friend, how to be kind, how to be patient, how to share, and how to work together to solve problems.

Award Winning Book Series

Several of Mo Willems’ books have won prestigious awards, including the Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal. Before he wrote children’s books, he worked as a writer on Sesame Street.

Cubcoats | Stuffed Animal Turns Into Cozy Hoodie

Remember PillowPets? A stuffed animal that can also be used as a pillow?

The new hot item for kids are Cubcoats!

What are they? Cubcoats are stuffed animals that transform into soft fleece hoodies. They’re super adorable!

One of my good friends recently bought them for her two young children and loves them so much I had to write this post.

She said when her son unzipped his Spider-Man Cubcoat, he said, “Wow!! There is so much inside this little guy! I didn’t even know all this was here!”

Jump & Stomp Rockets | STEM Toy Gift

Toys that get kids active outside grab my attention. They are a double whammy because they combine fun and physical activity.

jump-stomp-rockets-stem-toy-giftThe latest ones I’ve found are called Jump Rockets & Stomp Rockets, and they’re 100% kid powered!

Run, Jump & Stomp to Launch Rockets

Kids run, jump, and stomp to launch foam rockets up to 400 feet in the air!

They quickly learn that the higher they jump and the harder they stomp, the higher the rockets fly into the air.

Sounds like a blast, right?

This toy gift has an ADDED BONUS.

STEM = Stomp Rockets

It’s a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) toy that teaches kids about force, gravity, trajectory, and power of air.

This gift can inspire children to go into a STEM career building rockets or becoming an astronaut!

Coin Sets & Gold Dollars for Kids

While adults get excited about a $100 bill, young kids get excited about a shiny quarter with a cool picture on the back.

coin-sets-gold-dollars-kids-giftMy oldest son loves to receive coins for his piggy bag, some for spending and some for collecting.

National Park Coin Sets

Because our family likes to visit national parks, I purchased the National Parks Quarters Set. My set contained 34 coins.

The back of each quarter features the name and iconic image of a different national park in one of the 50 states.

For a Christmas gift, I gave my son 5 national park quarters. He went crazy! He felt rich, and he liked looking at the pictures on the back. In his excitement, he turned to me and asked, “Can we go to all of them?!”

It turned into an educational opportunity for him to learn about the names of national parks and the names of the states.

Valentine’s Day Musical Stuffed Animals

When we think of Valentine’s Day, we immediately think of romantic relationships. A close second are Valentine gifts for kids!

stuffed-animal-musical-little-lionheart-hallmark-thoughtful-gift-ideaCute plush stuffed animals are loved by everyone especially if they are interactive and musical.

I needed some birthday cards and stopped at a Hallmark store. As I walked in, I instantly was greeted by the Little Lionheart and Sweet Swingin’ Elephant musical stuffed animals.

My heart melted. What a wonderful way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a loveable plush toy animal that sings and dances.

I had to have them even though I do not have grandchildren…yet. In my defense, I do know a lot of little ones. Continue Reading

Kids Traceable Thank You Card

- - Kids, Thank You

My mother taught me the importance of writing thank you notes, and I’m passing the skills of showing appreciation down to my own children.

kids-traceable-thank-you-card-noteI started with my oldest child, Aiden, when he was only three years old. I created Color In Thank You Cards since he could color at that age.

At age 4, I created Star Wars thank you cards, and he wrote his name on each one and decorated them with Star Wars stickers.

This year at age 5, I created a Traceable Thank You Card since he’s learning how to write uppercase and lowercase letters in Pre-K. The template has a place at the bottom for him to write his name.

He practiced his handwriting while learning proper manners and etiquette. Parenting win!

The 5 Love Languages for A Happy Marriage

Have you ever wondered what the secret is to a long, happy marriage? I am completely serious when I tell you I’ve found it.

I learned it in the book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, the #1 New York Times bestselling book by Dr. Gary D. Chapman.

Communication doesn’t break down because men are from Mars and women are from Venus. It’s because we often speak different love languages than our spouse.

In the book, Dr. Chapman explains the 5 Love Languages using wonderful stories and examples from real couples he has helped through marriage counseling. He says it’s the secret to keeping love alive.

The 5 Love Languages

  3. Receiving Gifts
  4. Quality Time
  5. Physical Touch

Reading this book helped understand what makes me feel loved and what makes my husband feel loved.

PAW Patrol Birthday Party Theme

- - Kids

My son loves the TV show PAW Patrol, so it’s no surprise he picked it for the theme of his 4th birthday party.

paw-patrol-birthday-party-themeI was excited about his choice because each of the pups on the show have really cool personalities and traits. I had a lot of fun planning his birthday party, especially the obstacle course in the backyard.

I believe the most important part of a birthday party are the games or activities. It’s the fun the kids have doing them that will create the most lasting memories. So that’s where I like to put my focus.

Pup Pup Boogie Song & Dance

One of the PAW Patrol episodes features a song called “Pup Pup Boogie.” It’s catchy and makes everyone want to dance. I printed off the Nickelodeon “Pup Pup Boogie” printable spin-the-wheel game. The spinner can land on different puppy moves the kids can do to the music of “Pup Pup Boogie.” The kids did moves like “tail spin” and “puppy pose” while the “Pup Pup Boogie” song played on a continuous loop.

Adventure Course

Each of the PAW Patrol pups have different specialties so I created an outdoor obstacle course for the kids to do. After completing it, each kid earned a PAW Patrol badge. I called it the Adventure Course, and it featured six stations based on the six main characters in the show.
