Employee Brag Bell | Give Public Recognition

- - Business

According to a recent study featured in Psychology Today, employees care more about recognition than money.

Employee Brag Bells create a fun and simple way to give and receive praise in an organization.

Said no one ever, “Aggh! The people I work with praise me way too much. I hate it.”

Instead, the reality is that lack of recognition makes employees feel like their work doesn’t matter and that they don’t matter. Ouch!

The study revealed the powerful effects of recognition in these ways:

  • 83% of respondents said recognition for contributions was more fulfilling than any rewards or gifts
  • 76% found peer praise very or extremely motivating
  • 88% found praise from managers very or extremely motivating
  • 90% said a “fun work environment” was very or extremely motivating

A great way to get the whole office involved in giving praise or recognition for a job well done is to start an Employee Brag Bell. During staff meetings or organization-wide meetings, add the Employee Brag Bell to the agenda.

During the Employee Brag Bell, pass around a bell (we use two bells in our office since we have 100+ employees) and anyone who wants to brag about or thank a co-worker should ring the bell and share what they have to say with the entire group. Since the Employee Brag Bell offers an informal and voluntary process, the experience is authentic and sincere.

For something that is so quick and easy to implement, the results of a happier and more motivated workforce can be a game changer.

Make the tradition of the Employee Brag Bell a new part of your company culture, and offer your employees the regular opportunity to publicly give and receive praise. Your employees and your bottom line will thank you.

Research indicates that employees have three prime needs: Interesting work, recognition for doing a good job, and being let in on things that are going on in the company.  – Zig Ziglar
