Although my husband’s parents only live a few miles away, my husband doesn’t get much one-on-one time with his father.
I wanted to remedy that with a thoughtful Father’s Day gift – father/son time!
I thought my husband and his dad would enjoy the experience of going to a professional baseball game together. It’s a perfect outing that combines sports entertainment and plenty of time to chat, drink beer, eat peanuts, etc.
I didn’t know what date would work with their schedules so instead of pre-purchasing two tickets, I gave him IOU tickets I created on my printer and a schedule of the baseball games. Once he and his father decide on the game they want, I’ll take care of the rest.
They probably won’t call it “bonding” but it’s exactly what they’ll be doing!
A thoughtful twist to this Father’s Day gift idea is to plan different experiences for a father to spend one-on-one time with each of his children.
Family time doesn’t replace one-on-one time, so you have to make time for both. Depending on how this gift goes, I might turn this into an annual tradition!
After all, I can’t think of a better gift than strengthening the bond between father and son.
