Coin Sets & Gold Dollars for Kids

While adults get excited about a $100 bill, young kids get excited about a shiny quarter with a cool picture on the back.

coin-sets-gold-dollars-kids-giftMy oldest son loves to receive coins for his piggy bag, some for spending and some for collecting.

National Park Coin Sets

Because our family likes to visit national parks, I purchased the National Parks Quarters Set. My set contained 34 coins.

The back of each quarter features the name and iconic image of a different national park in one of the 50 states.

For a Christmas gift, I gave my son 5 national park quarters. He went crazy! He felt rich, and he liked looking at the pictures on the back. In his excitement, he turned to me and asked, “Can we go to all of them?!”

It turned into an educational opportunity for him to learn about the names of national parks and the names of the states.

Money Savvy Piggy Bank | Educational Toy

- - Kids

Earn more money so you can buy more stuff.

money-savvy-piggy-bank-kids-giftI used to believe that about money, but I don’t anymore. Now, I see money as freedom to do what I want with my time.

I learned most of my personal finance skills as an adult from reading articles on The Simple Dollar website. Like many children, I didn’t receive money lessons at home that I needed to become a money savvy adult.

Schools don’t make it a priority to teach personal finance skills, so it’s something that must be taught by parents and family members to children–from an early age.

My son, Aiden, recently turned five years old, and he received cash from three different people for his birthday that added up to almost $100. Bingo! This is the perfect time to start teaching him some simple money lessons and smart money habits.

HOW TO CREATE A MONEY PRESCRIPTION BOTTLE:

  • Prescription bottle
  • Large mailing label or paper and clear packing tape
  • Cash – bills or quarters

Just for the asking, my pharmacy provided me with a new prescription bottle free of charge.

To give you a couple of ideas, I created two different labels. One on a sticky mailing label and one on plain typing paper.

I found a large mailing label fits nicely on the large prescription bottle. For the smaller prescription bottle, I cut plain paper to fit and used clear packing tape to adhere it to the bottle. Continue Reading

Our Friendship is Golden – Birthday Gift

The five of my closest girlfriends have always celebrated our birthdays in some way or fashion.

We love giving each other gifts. Sometimes we would see a comedian, a musical, or play together as a birthday treat. Many times we would go to the birthday girl’s favorite place to eat.

My favorite birthday gift is a night of dancing. I love my girlfriends who are as good as gold for staying out late to dance the night away!

After 40 years of friendship, we have exchanged about every possible gift you can imagine. Continue Reading

Treasure Chest Filled With Silver & Gold

- - Birthday, Christmas, Kids, Money

Ahoy, matey! Did you ever wish for your very own treasure chest?

treasure-chest-full-of-coins-thoughtful-gift-ideaAs a kid, I remember the classic Walt Disney’s Treasure Island movie about pirates searching for treasure chests filled with gold. I later took my kids to see Hook staring Robin Williams.

My all time favorite pirate though would be the Pirates of the Caribbean movies with Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp.

I never fell in love with a prince in a Disney movie but I would have become available for Jack Sparrow. Don’t tell my husband!

Kids love fantasizing about treasure chests filled with silver and gold. It’s a fantasy that you can easily make come true! Continue Reading

Coin Purse Filled With Coins and Cash

A coin purse is the best thing ever! Not only does it hold your change for easy access but it keeps all of the coins from settling at the bottom of your purse.

Coin purses come in every shape, size and color. Some styles are classy while others inspire fun. The selections are endless as you can choose leather, cloth or silicone.

I try to find the perfect coin purse to match the personality of the gift recipient. Continue Reading

Money Bag | Two Gifts in One

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the words “Money Bags?” Someone with lots of money, right?  Well… here’s a gift idea for a Money Bag (singular) that will fit anyone’s budget.

This gift is a “twofer” as my husband would say.

money-bag-thoughtful-gift-ideaPurchase a purse with lots of pockets and zippers. (For the guys, use a backpack.)

The more pockets and zippers to hide cash and coins, the more fun and surprised the recipient will be. You can either insert the bills so they are hidden or visible the moment they open their gift.

Fill the middle part of the purse with as many crumpled dollar bills needed to make it look full. Of course, the amount of cash is up to you. (When using a backpack, you may want to just fill the outer compartments with cash to make those look full.)

There you have it! A Money Bag full of money! Two gifts in one!

A beautiful purse or cool backpack and some spending cash is a memorable gift for birthdays, Christmas, graduations or Mother’s Day.
